From Surviving to Thriving In Early Childhood Education

Becoming the teacher you want to be

This is the book I wish I had when I first started teaching. It’s everything you want to know about surviving and thriving in an early childhood setting, but no one told you. From setting up the environment to building relationships with families. From understanding developmental theory to lesson planning. But most important, I share the keys to navigating children’s behaviors and classroom management. This practical guide will give you actionable steps in easy to follow instructions to help you transform your program and create the joyful learning environment you’ve always wanted.

Randi Albertsen

Randi is an early childhood education specialist, consultant, and passionate advocate for joyful, research-based teaching. With a career spanning classroom teaching, childcare center work, family childcare ownership, curriculum design, and professional development, she brings a 360-degree perspective to what it truly takes for educators—and children—to thrive.

Randi’s journey has taken her from the classroom—teaching prekindergarten, Kindergarten and third grade—to hands-on experience in childcare centers and operating her own family childcare program. She has led workshops for teachers and administrators, and guided dozens of programs through the complexities of accreditation, grant writing, curriculum development, and navigating state regulations. She has also taught at both the community college and university level, sharing her expertise with the next generation of early childhood educators and helping to shape the future of the field.

As the founder of Innovations in Education, LLC, Randi is a trusted consultant for educators and organizations seeking real-world solutions grounded in both theory and practice. Her specialized knowledge of child development, curriculum, and assessment, combined with her MBA and service on the Maryland State Child Care Association Board—sets her apart as a leader in the field.

Randi’s writing is shaped by years of supporting educators at every stage of their journey. She understands the daily realities: the overwhelm, the burnout, the desire to make a lasting impact. Her mission is to help early childhood educators move from simply surviving to truly thriving—by equipping them with practical strategies, insights, and a renewed sense of purpose.

When she’s not consulting, training, or advocating for high-quality education, Randi enjoys life with her spouse, three dogs, and a cat. With her three grown children out on their own, she finds joy in baking, knitting, and tending her garden—embracing the same curiosity and creativity she encourages in others.
